It is almost the end of the year 2016 and this year I learned an important reason why the field of Artificial Intelligence is taking off.
Yes, we now have access to huge amounts of data. Massive amounts of computational resources are at our fingertips, and AI algorithms are getting better every year. But, an important reason for the explosive growth of Artificial Intelligence is the generosity of the community. People are generous with ideas and code, and that I think that led to a situation where beginners can get started easily and even solve a real world problem. I have myself benefitted greatly from this generosity.
So, this holiday season, I am giving back to the community in a small way. I am gifting 10 copies of the new Deep Learning book by Ian Goodfellow, Yoshua Bengio, and Aaron Courville.
Who is the ideal recipient of this gift? It is someone who is very interested in Artificial Intelligence even though they may be complete beginners. It is someone who likes building stuff, tinkering with new ideas, and giving back to the community. It does not matter where you live, what your gender, religion, ethnicity etc. is.
If you are that person and would like to be considered for this gift, please send me an email at [email protected] explaining your interest in Artificial Intelligence and your contributions to any community. E.g. if you have started or contributed to an open source project, please put that in. If you have taught little kids in your community for free, that counts too.
I will start shipping these books before Dec. 31, 2016. So please drop in an email today!
Thank you and have a wonderful holiday season!
Update : Jan 2, 2017
Happy new year folks! I have finished reviewing all emails. I am overwhelmed and very thankful for your response. After the first pass, I was able to narrow the search to approximately 50 people, and I am going through them again to narrow the list down to 10. Thank you for your patience. I hope to send out an email by Jan 4, 2017 5 PM Pacific Standard Time. Stay tuned!
